Rejoice and Shout

Rejoice and Shout

It’s all but impossible to discuss African-American culture or America’s musical heritage without talking about Gospel Music. Just as the church was an integral part of the African-American community from the time slaves were first brought to the colonies, music played a crucial role in their spiritual experience from the beginning, and as various forms of African and rural music coalesced into gospel, gospel in turn became the foundation that later spawned jazz, blues, soul and even rap. And gospel music became the stepping-stone into the spotlight for many of music most influential artists, who in turn helped bring new ideas into the gospel sound, keeping it fresh and innovative. Filmmaker Don McGlynn, who specializes in documentaries about American music, chronicles the history of African-American gospel music in the film REJOICE AND SHOUT, which reveals the true story of this powerful and influential musical form and the people who helped to make it great. REJOICE AND SHOUT received its world premiere at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival.

Ellen Barkin, Zach Galifianakis, Rob Corddry, and Jeffrey Tambor star.

Team America: World Police

Team America: World Police

This politcally-minded comedy action adventure tells the story of Team America, a group of superhero-style adventurers who travel the world fighting terrorism and other evils. Specifically, the story focuses on a typical “action hero” who is recruited to join Team America for a special mission, as a satire of the typical Hollywood action movie, using a combination of wood marionette-driven action sequences and stirring tongue-in-cheek musical numbers.

Ten9Eight: Shoot for the Moon

Ten9Eight: Shoot for the Moon

In America, a kid drops out of high school every 9 seconds. Imagine if they didn’t. This is the question behind award-winning filmmaker Mary Mazzio’s newest project “Ten9Eight,” a film which tells the inspirational stories of several inner city teens (of differing race, religion and ethnicity) from Harlem to Compton and all points in between, as they compete in an annual business plan competition run by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).

St. Trinian’s

St. Trinian’s

It’s no more Mr. Nice Guy for Colin Firth in this anarchic British comedy. The former Mr. Darcy stars as an uptight education minister who wants to shut down the fun at St. Trinian’s all-girls school. From raising their hemlines to blowing up small buildings, the sassy students ignore the rules, especially when it comes to saving their precious school from closing. ST TRINIAN’S features some of Britain’s best talent, including Lena Headley, Russell Brand, Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie, and Rupert Everett, who dons drag as the school’s headmistress. Inspired by the work of artist Ronald Searle, this comedy follows in a series of films about the girls’ school, including THE BELLES OF ST. TRINIAN’S.
